Straight answers, no fine print.

What is TPEE?

TPEE (Toptronic® Prompt Engineering Editor) is a Windows desktop application for writing and scoring prompts for large language models. It splits a prompt into 13 sections, scores it 0–100 before you send it, and exports it to 50 IDE, 63 CLI and 50 harness profiles. It runs fully offline and is bought once — USD $49, $99 or $299 — not as a subscription. It is not a chatbot, a cloud service, a prompt marketplace or a browser extension, and there is no macOS or Linux build.

Does TPEE really work offline?

Yes — the app makes no network calls at runtime, with one exception you control: Help → Check for Updates contacts tpee.app to compare your build against the latest release — when you click it, and once at start-up while the start-up check is left on. No telemetry, and nothing is sent that you did not ask to send: the release check also runs once at start-up, and one untick of 'Check for Updates at Start up' turns that off. No account needed to write prompts. Everything else stays fully offline — verify with your firewall; we encourage it. (The website and Stripe checkout are online, obviously.)

Windows SmartScreen warned me when I ran the installer. Is it safe?

Yes - it is safe, and you can check it yourself in a minute. Every release we sell is code-signed with an EV certificate in the name of Toptronic Ltd. SmartScreen can still show a warning the first time it sees a brand-new signed installer, because a file earns its reputation with Windows over time, not the moment it is signed - so the warning says nothing about the file. To continue, click More info, then Run anyway — those two buttons are labelled in whatever language your Windows is set to. Before you run it, confirm the download is ours: the published file name and its SHA-256 should match, and the certificate should name Toptronic Ltd. If the name, the publisher or the hash does not match, stop and email us instead. Step-by-step verification is on our Security page.

What is the Toptronic® Lifetime Warranty?

Every Toptronic product carries a lifetime warranty against any defect of the features of the product you bought from us, during its maintenance period. If you bought a TPEE Pro with 12 months of maintenance, the product and every release during those 12 months are covered, and we warrant that it works as expected on your hardware. It does not cover a product that was not proven to have been bought from us, or a different part number, and a free-trial copy is not covered — a trial carries no updates and no warranty. To claim, use the feedback form on the pricing page or in the app (Help > Send Feedback) and choose the Warranty Claim category - explain what is not correct and how to reproduce it.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — there is a 14-day free trial. It is the full editor at no cost and with no credit card: enter your email on the home page and we send you a download link. The trial does not include new signed releases, priority release access, a refund window or the Lifetime Warranty, and when the 14 days end the editor keeps working — it simply stops receiving new builds. Buying any plan starts your updates, and tpee.app already knows your email, so the app picks them up on its next check: nothing to re-install. See the pricing section for the three paid plans.

What happens when the 14-day trial ends?

The editor keeps working — nothing is switched off, and the app tells you so at start-up: it will say this copy is not a licensed version and ask you to buy a plan to continue using it as one. What a trial copy is not eligible for is any new signed release, and the Lifetime Warranty. To continue as a licensed copy, buy any plan — your Licence / order key arrives by email and the app verifies it under Help > Your Details. A trial copy itself carries no updates, no priority release access and no refund window.

Where is my Licence / order key, and what do I do with it?

It is in your purchase email (and your trial email), and it is the same reference shown on the success page — it looks like TPEE-2026-00042. Enter it in the app under Help > Your Details, then press Check with the store: the app sends only a SHA-256 of the key, never the key itself, and the store answers whether it matches your email. If it does, Your Details shows it verified in green. Nothing else is sent anywhere.

What does the quality score actually measure?

Each of the 13 prompt sections is checked for completeness and internal consistency, shown as GREEN/YELLOW/RED, and rolled into a 0–100 score. It won't write the prompt for you — it tells you when you've done the work.

Which IDEs can I export to?

50 profiles, including Cursor, VS Code and its variants, Claude Code, Kiro, and Devin Desktop — plus a general formatter if your tool isn't listed.

Which AI models does it cover?

185 model profiles across 23 providers, with pricing, context windows, and API character limits. TPEE doesn't call these models for you — it helps you write prompts that fit them.

MSI installer

Both. Same app, same build: MSI for a normal Windows install, ZIP for run-from-anywhere (no admin rights needed).

Windows only? What about Mac or Linux?

Windows 10 and 11 only, for now. It's a native Rust/egui app, and we'd rather support one platform properly than three poorly.

What's the beta program?

Accepted beta testers get 30% off the Professional plan (code BETA30) in exchange for short monthly feedback. Details and application: beta program.

Is it really worth the price?

Compare it to a ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro subscription — see the numbers on the pricing page.

What is a prompt engineering tool?

Software that helps you write prompts more deliberately instead of free-typing them. TPEE (Toptronic® Prompt Engineering Editor) structures every prompt into 13 sections — Persona, Instructions, Context, Technical Specifications, Format, Audience, Tone, Data, Examples, Graphics, MCP Servers, Verification of Results & Outcome and Agents — checks each for completeness and scores the result 0–100. It runs 100% offline on Windows.

Do I need a prompt editor, or can I just use ChatGPT directly?

You don't need one — but free-typed prompts are inconsistent, and re-trying a weak prompt costs real tokens and time. TPEE gives you a repeatable structure and a quality score before you spend anything. If you only prompt occasionally, ChatGPT's box is fine; if you prompt for work every day, structure pays for itself.

Can TPEE save me money on API or token costs?

It's designed to. Most wasted tokens come from re-running a vague prompt until the model finally understands you. TPEE's 13-section structure and 0–100 score catch the gaps before you send anything, and its 185 model profiles with API character limits help you size prompts to the model you're paying for. Fewer retries = fewer tokens. (The app itself never calls a model — the savings are in how you prompt.)

Is TPEE a PromptLayer or LangSmith alternative?

It's a different tool for a different job. PromptLayer and LangSmith are cloud platforms for logging, versioning and evaluating prompts at scale. TPEE is an offline Windows desktop editor that helps you write structured, high-scoring prompts before you deploy them. If you're a solo developer or small team tired of SaaS subscriptions, TPEE covers the authoring side with a one-time price.

Why would I want an offline prompt tool?

Privacy and ownership. A cloud prompt tool can see every prompt you type. TPEE runs entirely on your PC — no network calls, no account, no telemetry (you can verify with a firewall). Your prompts never leave your machine until you paste them into an LLM yourself. The website does measure visits with Google Analytics and a Google Ads tag, and only after you accept the choice at the bottom of the page; the application never measures anything.

Does TPEE run on Windows 11?

Yes — Windows 10 and Windows 11. It's a native Rust/egui desktop app (no Electron, no browser wrapper), delivered as an MSI installer.

How much does TPEE cost?

One-time purchase, USD: Student $49 (4 months of updates), Starter $99, Professional $299, and a $299 Gift of the Future — a Professional licence you buy for someone else, sent to them by email with your name as the giver. Starter includes 6 months of updates; Professional includes 12 months. No subscription and no recurring fee.

Is there a one-time-purchase alternative to prompt-engineering SaaS?

Yes — TPEE is a one-time purchase (USD $49–$299 by plan, with up to 12 months of updates included) and has no subscription, no account, and no telemetry. That's the core difference from subscription prompt tools.

Is there a TPEE discount for students?

Yes — the Student plan is USD 49.00 and includes 4 months of updates, and there is no approval step: choose the plan on the pricing page and pay by card. No proof-of-enrolment upload and no automated gate — just a one-time purchase.

Does TPEE support teams?

Team features (shared templates, task assignment, team canvases) are built into the app, but the team plan is not on sale yet — see the pricing page for what's available today. TPEE stays fully offline, so team prompts are shared through your own storage, not our servers.

HOW DID WE GET HERE

Not answered here? support@tpee.app.

How releases arrive. We code-sign a new build in the name of Toptronic Ltd and publish it about every 14 days — not every day. Your plan covers a window of updates (4 months on Student, 6 on Starter, 12 on Professional and on the Gift of the Future) and every release we sign inside that window is yours. Builds we have not yet signed are not offered for download or sale.
